DOC FORDS RUM BAR & GRILLE – Restaurant

Sanibel's rum bar keeps island hours and island manners: doors at eleven, last plates at ten, nobody dressed up. Doc Ford's, borrowed from the biologist in Randy Wayne White's novels, has run here since 2003 and built a following on Yucatan Shrimp, butter and chilli and lime, worth sopping up with bread. Grouper anchors the rest of the menu, macadamia-nut-crusted or in a sandwich grilled, blackened or fried, with Campeche flounder tacos, shrimp tacos and a dry-rubbed Angus ribeye alongside. The rum list is the point of the name. Casual, coastal, and built for a long and thoroughly unhurried afternoon.
