DOC FORD'S RUM BAR & GRILLE – Restaurant

Named for the marine-biologist hero of Randy Wayne White's Sanibel-set novels, Doc Ford's Rum Bar & Grille has been pouring rum on the island since 2003. The dish everyone orders is Yucatan Shrimp, fired with butter, chilli and lime. After that: Campeche fish tacos built on wild-caught Alaskan flounder, a grouper sandwich grilled, blackened or fried, macadamia-nut-crusted grouper and a dry-rubbed Black Angus ribeye for the landlubbers. The bar, unsurprisingly, leans hard into rum cocktails. Open daily from eleven until ten on Island Inn Road. Barefoot-casual, all fishing-boat energy, and a kitchen that plainly respects the seafood it is cooking.
