Linger Lodge has sat on the Braden River in Bradenton since 1945, when Carl Begstresser built it as a two-story log cabin on 100 riverfront acres; fire took the original structure in the late 1950s, and the single-story building that replaced it has been added onto ever since. The menu leans into offbeat Florida fare — alligator, frog legs, Florida grouper, sea scallops, gumbo and smoked meats — alongside a tongue-in-cheek "Road Kill" section for the adventurous. Forbes named it one of the world's ten most unusual restaurants in 2007. Equal parts roadhouse and river-camp landmark, it's built its reputation on that mix of quirky menu and eight decades of history.
