MEKENITA CANTINA – Restaurant
Oaxaca by way of Seminole Heights. Chef Rand and Tiffani Packer started Mekenita in Lutz in 2007, moved it to North Florida Avenue in 2018 and added table service and a serious cocktail bar. Everything is built around house salsas — charred guajillo, salsa verde, pica verde — and slow work: Pacific wood-smoked pork, citrus grilled chicken, ancho-rubbed Angus steak. Crab and roasted poblano enchiladas come in a lobster ancho cream; mahi tacos arrive under charred corn pasilla salsa. Horchata is made in house and the mezcal list rewards curiosity. Closed Sundays, busy the rest of the week.
