Roladin is Israel's biggest bakery-cafe chain, and the format has barely changed since Kobi and Avi Hakak went from selling home-baked cakes door to door in the late eighties to opening their first shop in Ramat HaSharon in 1989. The counter is the event: viennoiserie, cakes, breads and patisserie, with coffee, sandwiches and all-day cafe plates alongside. Come Hanukkah the chain becomes a national spectacle, its elaborately filled sufganiyot the ones everyone queues and argues about. Two branches serve Hadera. Early doors, closed Saturdays, and a pastry case that does the selling.
