Demarela sits on Rua de Fernando III o Santo, minutes from Santiago's old town and on the pilgrim route into the city, and it works the way a Galician neighbourhood cafe should: a long counter, a terrace outside, wifi for anyone settling in. Mornings are the main event, with coffee and churros, thick hot chocolate and a full breakfast spread that regulars turn up for daily. Later the counter turns to bocadillos, hamburgers, pastries and quick snacks, some of them vegan. Open eight until ten Monday to Friday, shorter Saturdays, closed Sunday. Unpretentious, consistent, and very much a local's cafe.
