Cafein – cafe

An Israeli cafe chain that begins and ends with coffee, and roasts its own blends to make the point. In Haifa the name turns up repeatedly: Carmel Center, Horev, Neve Sha'anan, the Grand Kanyon and inside Holmes Place, which tells you the format, small, quick and dependable rather than grand. The kitchen is dairy, the breakfasts generous, and the cards run to salads, pastas, sandwiches, chef plates and pastries, with croissants and cheesecake waiting at the counter. Several branches hold kosher certification. Iced coffee, fresh-squeezed juice and house lemonade carry the summer. Some open before seven and close after midnight.
