Café-bar El Xallas – cafe

Avenida Rodríguez de Viguri 37, doors open at eight and stay open until eleven at night, six days a week. El Xallas is a working Santiago café-bar with a broad card: breakfasts first, then raciones, tapas, bocadillos, sandwiches, hamburgers and salads, with a menú del día around twelve euros. A full lunch here rarely runs past fifteen. There is a terrace for the days Galicia allows one, and everything travels if you would rather eat elsewhere. Sundays it closes. What comes up again and again from diners is the value and the unhurried, friendly welcome rather than any single dish.
