Café Noir – restaurant

An intimate bistro on Ahad Ha'am Street, opened in 1997 by Rafi Bader and Gideon Eliyahu, who set out to recast European food culture for a Tel Aviv crowd. French-Italian cooking with Mediterranean edges: forest-mushroom polenta with asparagus and Parmigiano Reggiano, fire-roasted aubergine with tahini and tomato salsa, arancini, Druze pita stuffed with veal and lamb, beef carpaccio, Mediterranean ceviche. Handmade pasta runs to pumpkin tortellini in sage butter, gnocchi in tomato butter, black linguine with seafood. The schnitzel, in veal, chicken or white rib, is the signature. Lunch runs busy, evenings darker and slower. Open daily, noon until eleven.
