Drawbacks, Health Risks, and Criticism
B12 deficiency remains the most clinically relevant nutritional risk, milder than in strict veganism but genuinely present, particularly for vegetarians who eat less dairy and fewer eggs than they assume they do. Iron and zinc status deserve similar ongoing attention, and a systematic review linking plant based eating to anemia and osteoporosis risk found the concern applies to vegetarians as well as vegans whenever calcium, protein, and iron intake all run low together over an extended period.[4]

A more practical, everyday friction is definitional rather than nutritional.
